The actress, who turned 81 in December, revealed to Surrey Life magazine (as all tatted celebs do) that she received her first ink as a birthday gift from her daughter, actress Flinty Williams.

The tatt in question? A Bra Boys-worthy "carpe diem".

"That's my motto: seize the day," she told the magazine, explaining that the phrase is inked on the inside of her right wrist.

Keen followers of the Dame will remember a tale from last year that also featured the Notes on a Scandal actress and a tatt, this time one allegedly professing her love for Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who is often credited for "discovering" Dench by bringing her from London's West End to film.

The story was retold by Weinstein himself during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

"She took me to the Four Seasons restaurant," Weinstein said. "And she said, 'I've got you a surprise. You're the guy who has everything, I don't know what to get you.'"

Dench then unbuckled her pants to reveal a tattoo that read, "JD loves HW".

"She said 'I put your name on my ass.'"

However, the story was later revealed to be a joke.
