The breakfast will held at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre as part of Cessnock City Council’s Local Government Week celebrations.
Schools across the region have been invited to attend the event, giving students the chance to learn from the rugby league great and take away some valuable life lessons.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent said Harragon – who represented Australia in 17 Tests and NSW in 20 consecutive State of Origin games – is sure to inspire.
“In his 220 senior matches, Paul’s leadership, team-work and dedication were shown time and time again,” Cr Pynsent said.
“Off the field he is a passionate advocate for many charities and the Hunter region.
“Chief Harragon will share his journey, the kid from Kurri to sporting superstar, giving local students a unique understanding of the effort and perseverance needed to achieve goals.
“The chance to hear the highs and lows that go hand-in-hand with chasing your dreams will encourage local students to aim high and to keep going even when they encounter setbacks.”
Harragon retired from the NRL in 1999 and spent a few years as a presenter on the Footy Show.
He was runner-up on Channel Ten’s ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ in March this year, but winner Brendon Fevola split his prize money with the Chief, handing $50,000 to the Mark Hughes Foundation.
