New images posted online appear to lend weight to the long-circulating rumour that Apple will announce three, not two, versions of its upcoming iPhone 7.

The images, originally posted on Chinese social network Weibo, show front and back views of a trio of phones labelled iPhone 7 Pro, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7.
Their appearance follows a video earlier this week, also posted to Weibo, which gave a close look at what was supposedly the iPhone 7.
Rumours of an iPhone 7 Pro were stoked early this year, when Apple filed a patent concerning a dual-camera array that would allow for telephoto zoom. Soon after, a leaked image showed such an array on what appeared to be an unreleased Plus-sized iPhone.
Since some analysts had also received information about plans for an iPhone 7 with only a standard camera, it was assumed that Apple was either choosing between two very different designs or was planning to release three models.
The supposed iPhone 7 Pro in the new photos is very similar to that seen in the leak from earlier this year, with both including three dots at the rear base reminiscent of the "smart connector" on the iPad Pro.
Its unclear what benefits a "Pro" model would have over the regular iPhone 7 Plus, but the connector would indicate compatibility with some kind of smart accessory that couldn't work with the Plus or iPhone 7.
The units seen in the new images have the same redesigned antenna lines as seen in the video from earlier in the week.
However, the new images show a small square on the rear of each phone, similar to that seen on the iPhone 6s and SE. In the images, the box appears to have an "S" inside, as the 6s does, which would be a weird thing to see on this year's phones, assuming the iPhone 7 naming convention is accurate.
Aside from the antenna lines and changes to cameras (the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in many leaked images have a much larger bump for their imaging tech than the 6s does), the supposed new phones still look very similar to 2014's iPhone 6. This is consistent with earlier images which suggest that, aside from dropping the headphone jack in the iPhone 7, Apple is planning to save its big upgrades for 2017.
Despite the similarities between leaked images going back half a year, it's difficult if not impossible to tell which of the rumours (if any) will ring true when the next iPhone is revealed, although many leaks do reflect information reported by well-connected Apple insiders.
Apple does, of course, produce dummy phones and reference material of all kinds ahead of a phone's launch, for everything from prototypes to window displays to guides for accessory-makers, and the leaks could come from manufacturers.
By that same token, there are surely dozens of companies ramping up production on imitation iPhone 7 units and cheap accessories, based on the rumours that are already circulating.
All is expected to be revealed in September when, if history is any indication, Apple will officially announce its new phones.
