Hotel Denman publican Jason Crockett saw the need for a chainsaw after the April superstorm in 2015, and with the help of the hotel patrons raised $1400 towards the new chainsaw and associated equipment.
The new chainsaw is a state-of-the-art Husqvarna model and will complement the equipment currently stowed on the fire appliance.
Abermain Fire Brigade captain Bill Lang said the chainsaw will be a valuable piece of equipment for use in storm recovery and also in the upcoming bush fire season.
“Abermain is lucky to have a dedicated team of fire fighters protecting lives, property and the environment and this new piece of equipment will help then do this important job,” he said.
Work is well underway with the construction of a new fire station at the site of the old station on Cessnock Road, Abermain.
The new station is expected to be complete early in the new year.
