The Cessnock Goannas will don a purple playing strip for their home game against Souths.
The colour change will support the Cessnock Relay For Life (a Cancer Council fundraiser, which will be held at the Goannas’ home ground, Baddeley Park, on October 15).
One of the specially-made jerseys has been signed by local league legends Matthew and Andrew Johns, and will be auctioned off at the Black and Gold Ball on Saturday night.
All four grades will wear the purple strip and the club will donate $10 per jersey to the relay.
There will also be a bucket drop at the game.
Goannas sponsorship and marketing coordinator Brett McLennan said the club was looking to engage with the community, and that Relay For Life was a great cause that supports local people.
“Cancer touches everyone, it doesn’t matter who you are,” he said.
Under-19s will kick off at 10.50am, with the main game at 3pm.
Entry is free for anyone wearing Relay For Life attire.
