The match on Saturday September 24 at Cessnock Sportsground is expected to be hotly contested as it is the last game before the season gets under way.
It is fantastic we have been able to secure the fixture and give the community the opportunity to watch this level of football in their own local area.
Tickets are available for sale at Ticketmaster and from the Hunter Valley Visitor Centre.
BOYS AND GIRLS INVITED TO JETS FOOTBALL CLINIC
Young footballers from across the region will also have the opportunity to participate in a free clinic put on by the Jets on Friday September 23 at Cessnock Sportsground.
Up to 200 boys and girls will be able to take part and get pointers from some of Australia’s best players.
More information will be released in early September at www.newcastlejets.com.au.
INTELLIGENT DISCUSSION IN MAYORAL DEBATE HEATS
The Mayoral Debate heats were held last week with teams competing from St Philip’s Christian College, Cessnock High School, Kurri Kurri High School and Mount View High School.
Well done to all of the students who took part in the heats, they engaged in intelligent discussion and prepared strong arguments.
Congratulations to St Philip’s Christian College and Kurri Kurri High School debating teams as they have secured themselves a place in the final, which is being held today.
WELCOME TO OUR SIXTEEN NEW CITIZENS
Cessnock welcomed 16 new Australian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony held on Friday August 19.
Our new citizens came from all around the world including the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Israel and Indonesia.
It is always special to be part of this ceremony as it takes great courage to leave the land of your birth and great wisdom to choose to make Australia your home.
Congratulations to all 16 new citizens and best of wishes for your future.
VALE COMMUNITY STALWART ARTHUR FRANCIS
It was with great sadness we heard of the passing of Arthur Francis, who was an outstanding member of our community.
Mr Francis was inducted into the Cessnock Hall of Fame for public service following his service in the Australian Army until his retirement in 1997, where he served time in Malaysia, Borneo and Vietnam.
He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 1986 for his services to the Parachute Battalion, 3rd Battalion the Royal Australian Regiment, and the Conspicuous Service Cross in 1997.
His passing is a great loss to the entire community.
He was always heavily involved with our local ANZAC Day services, including assisting at the Kearsley Dawn Service and also contributed through the establishment of the Australian Army Infantry Museum in Singleton.
