The Hawks twice built up big leads but were unable to hold off Warriors’ comebacks to go down 44-30 in their Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League C-grade encounter at Raymond Terrace.
Abermain got off to a brilliant start to score the first three tries and lead 16-0 midway through the first half.
Dungog came back and led at the break by two points.
The Hawks dug deep again and within 10 minutes after the break had raced in three tries and were seemingly back in control leading 30-18.
Unfortunately, the breaks went against the Hawks and they were a player down when a sin-binning became a full send-off after dissent.
The Warriors took full advantage and got home.
