But perhaps the best description of Wyborn ahead of his 100th first grade game for the Bulldogs is from coach Phil Williams – “Ben Wyborn’s a footballer’’.
Wyborn will need to be all of those in his milestone game as the Bulldogs face Lakes United in Saturday’s elimination final at Cahill Oval.
“It’s come about pretty quick. I didn’t realise until it come up at the club recently,” Wyborn, 27, said of his 100th game.
“It’s great to play so many first grade games for the club, but the most important thing on Saturday is a win.
“We’ve got our four grade sides in the finals and hopefully we can all get up and keep the run going to the grand final.”
Wyborn has been remarkably resilient and has only missed a handful of games in the past couple of seasons after returning to the club from the Newcastle Knights under-20 and NSW Cup programs.
“I played about eight games for the club as a 17-year-old and then went to the Knights,” he said.
“I don’t think I missed a game for the first three years after coming back and have been pretty lucky since only missing a couple of games in the past couple of seasons.
Wyborn’s great run with injuries is all the more remarkable given the no-nonsense way he plays the game.

- Kurri Kurri's Ben Wyborn
A tackling machine and dangerous in attack, Wyborn has been crucial in the Bulldogs run to the finals.
Blessed with great ball skills, his versatility has seen him play numerous roles for the Bulldogs.
He said he had enjoyed playing at lock, his preferred position, as the Bulldogs were able to settle their line-up despite star playmaker Terence Seu Seu missing several games in the lead-up to the finals.
“We should be back at full strength this week with Corey Holman coming back from his week’s suspension,” Wyborn said.
“We’ve been pretty settled, Mitch Cullen has been playing really well in the halves.
“Even when Terrence was missing Hayden Grainger stepped in at halfback and played really well.”
Wyborn said his favourite memory from his time at the club so far was the Bulldogs remarkable mid-season run to the 2013 grand final.
“It was like playing a final every week. It really was special,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we lost the grand final but there was such a great spirit across the whole town.”
