A free information session for people preparing to supervise learner drivers will be held at the Cessnock council building on September 8.

The evening will offer practical advice for parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends who are involved in teaching a learner driver.
Topics will include understanding current laws for L and P licence holders, recently announced rule changes for novice drivers, the learner driver log book, tactics for supervising learner drivers and low-risk driving.
Participants will receive a free information kit to take home and light refreshments will be provided.
Cessnock council road safety officer, Warren Jeffery said the workshop aims to take some of the stress out of instructing learner drivers by answering frequently asked questions.
“People will come away understanding the requirements of obtaining a licence and updated knowledge of the road rules,” Mr Jeffery said.
Cessnock council general manager, Stephen Glen said giving learn drivers the best possible start would help make roads safer, not only for learner drivers but for all road users.
According to Roads and Maritime Services statistics the Cessnock local government area averages close to 700 learner drivers per year.
