The eight-hectare site on Wine Country Drive and Dover Street was sold on behalf of property developer Neil Wallace to an undisclosed buyer.
Mr Wallace had received development approval to build 178 individual retirement villas on the land, but was unable to follow through due to ill-health.
Plans for the property are currently confidential, but Mr Wallace said the project will be “a really massive win for the community.”
Mr Wallace said he has received about 150 offers over the years, some higher than what he sold for, but wanted to make sure the buyer would make a real difference for Cessnock.
