This changeover will ensure the building is continued to be used to provide education to the local community following the closure of Singleton Community College Inc. in the near future.
The College announced its closure in June after changes to vocational education funding across New South Wales prompted the decision and the Management Committee has since been working with TAFE to ensure that the space will remain an education facility.
Hunter TAFE Institute Director Christine Warrington said that the building would maintain its role as a place of education for the local community.
“The College has been an important part of the Singleton community and amongst its achievements includes its instrumental role in creating a quality educational precinct that includes schools and TAFE,” Ms Warrington said.
The site on TAFE’s Singleton campus in York Street has been the home of the College since 2010, after they secured funding from the Commonwealth to build the premise.
During this time the College has provided a range of accredited courses from community services and business, to leisure and short courses.
TAFE is looking to use the new building to potentially facilitate courses in areas such as fitness and sports coaching, first aid, business, industry focused programs and short fee free options however this will be decided at a later date.
In announcing the handover, the College’s Management Committee extended its appreciation and gratitude to all current and past administration and tutoring staff who provided their expertise, knowledge and assisted participants in accessing learning pathways.
Most especially, the Committee offered thanks to the wider community who attended courses and supported the College in various roles during its 30 years of operation.
