The review follows the release of a Unions NSW report that highlighted recommended rates as low as $14.45 an hour after Airtasker had taken a 15 per cent cut for tasks such as cleaning and administration.

Unions NSW secretary Mark Morey welcomed the increase in recommended minimum rates, but said unions would continue to campaign for the provision of superannuation, worker's compensation insurance and casual or leave loading.

He said Airtasker has updated its recommended rates of pay by up to 45 per cent by encouraging users to advertise work at a minimum rate of $25 an hour.

The revision was made after Unions NSW released its report Innovation or Exploitation –​ Busting the Airtasker Myth, although the company denied any link.

"This initial victory for the trade union movement is heartening, however, we will continue to pursue Airtasker, to defend decent standards for work throughout the economy," Mr Morey said.

"Websites such as Airtasker unpick 150 years of protest and agitation for decent conditions. It's not only the workers directly engaged in gigs on Airtasker who are affected. By encouraging a race to the bottom, everyone suffers.

"Superannuation, workplace injury insurance and casual loading are core labour conditions. When we meet with Airtasker over the next few weeks, we look forward to hearing how they plan to promote compliance with industrial law.

"As things presently stand, if someone slipped and cracked their head while performing a cleaning gig through Airtasker, they would have no entitlement to compensation."

Airtasker co-founder Tim Fung said he has not been in contact with Unions NSW and the revision of recommended hourly rates last week was part of a routine update.

Mr Fung said his organisation was not influenced by the recent release of the Unions NSW report.

"We update our price guide all the time based on market data," Mr Fung said.
