Plans for the major revamp of the intersection are on public exhibition until November 4.
The funding came after 16 crashes at the intersection in the five years to December 2015.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said the proposed changes had been designed to minimise the impact on vegetation and all road widening would be carried out on the southern side of the intersection.
“The proposed upgrade includes providing a single lane roundabout and widening the road to retain the left turn lane into Duffie Drive,” he said.
