The Cessnock community is invited to stand together against domestic violence as part of the international event Reclaim the Night on October 28.
Held globally on the last Friday in October, Reclaim The Night was established more than 30 years ago to promote the rights of women and children to feel safe in their homes and in the community, and remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.
The Cessnock event will be hosted by Hunter Domestic Violence Support Advisory Services in the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre courtyard from 5pm to 9pm.
Hunter Domestic Violence Support Advisory Services chairperson Paula Mudd said it is an important event for women of all ages.
“It’s a night where we demand that any woman should be able to walk down the street at any time of the night to wear whatever they choose, without being harassed, molested or sexually assaulted,” Ms Mudd said.
The event will include entertainment by Cessnock singer Tara Naysmith, the In-Step Line Dancers, Aboriginal musician and dancer Morris, plus face painting, a sausage sizzle and much more.
