Last Monday I was pleased to attend the Cessnock Youth Frontiers Showcase at Cessnock High School, where students under the guidance of industry mentors showcased programs supporting young people.

FRAME DRIVE BRIDGE WORK STARTS
Frame Drive Bridge has now been demolished with the official sod turning held last week marking the commencement of work on this important piece of infrastructure.
Building the new bridge will involve installing steel piles into rock to provide a suitable foundation. It is satisfying to see the progress and I look forward to the ribbon cutting on the new concrete bridge in the not too distant future.

HUNTER REGIONAL PLAN WELCOME
I welcomed the release of the Hunter Regional Plan 2036 by NSW Planning and Environment which sets out a clear plan for our community. The document provides a way forward for Cessnock City’s key assets and strategic centres over the next 20 years, with an expected growth from 56,000 to 70,000 residents in the area.
I am pleased to see strategies developed by Cessnock City Council incorporated into the plan and council's formal submission acknowledged. It is a promising outcome for our local government area and it is great to see Cessnock City Council’s planning initiatives recognised.
The Hunter Regional Plan 2036 also highlights Cessnock City Council will be working with adjoining Newcastle City Council and Lake Macquarie Council to deliver the Richmond Vale Rail Trail Cycleway project. The plan includes 32km of shared cycle ways between Kurri Kurri and Hexham and is a fantastic opportunity for our area. In its completion we can expect an increase in the number of visitors to our local government area and the economic benefits that come with day visitors.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON CYCLEWAY PROJECT
The Richmond Vale Rail Trail Cycleway project has now progressed to the consultation phase giving residents the opportunity to have their say. In collaboration with Newcastle City Council and Lake Macquarie City Council a number of community consultation sessions are being held including at the Kurri Kurri Business Enterprise Centre on November 9 from 4pm to 7pm. Drop-in to one of the community information sessions to chat about the proposal, view the concept design and provide input to help us improve the quality of the project.
