A MAN has been charged with breaking the wrist of one police officer before punching and spitting on a female officer after he attempted to intervene in the eviction of a young woman at the popular Jazz In The Vines festival.

Police said the 45-year-old, from Cambridge Gardens near Penrith, was showered with capsicum spray after trying to stop officers and security from kicking out a 24-year-old woman for assaulting another woman she did not know.
The spokesman alleged the man pushed one male officer over – the fall fracturing a wrist – before he allegedly spat at a female officer and punched her in the face.
The incident occurred about 6.15pm on Saturday after the festival had finished.
He was later charged with two counts of assaulting police, and one count each of resist arrest and affray.
Several other people involved in the same incident are expected to receive court attendance notices.
The spokesman said the incident was isolated and the high majority of revellers at the popular festival were well-behaved.
