A MAN has been fined $1500 after failing to have his dog treated for days after it suffered a horrific throat injury that ultimately required it to be put down.

Blue and white American Staffordshire terrier Tess was found with severe facial injuries at an address in Kurri Kurri when an RSPCA inspector and a council ranger attended in April.
The RSPCA said one side of the dog’s face was opened in a severe wound “with a horrible, smelly discharge”.
Inspectors seized the animal at the scene and took it to a veterinary hospital for emergency treatment.
Veterinary examinations found the dog had a diagonal fracture in her front right leg as well as the extensive facial wounds.
She was ultimately euthanised due to the severity of her injuries.
The veterinarian determined the dog’s owner inflicted unnecessary suffering and infection on Tess by failing to seek emergency treatment.
Mr Hudson told authorities he had owned the dog for about three years, and said she had been involved in the fight three days before the inspectors took her for care.
He had been spraying the wound with iodine and bathing it as well as giving the animal non-prescribed antibiotics, the RSPCA said in a statement. She had not been taken to see a vet.
The dog’s owner, Daniel John Hudson, was found guilty of failing to provide veterinary treatment in his absence from court in Kurri Kurri.
Magistrate Caleb Franklin ordered him to pay a $1500 fine and banned him from owning any animal for five years.
Part of the fine amount will be awarded to RSPCA NSW.
