The event featured a women’s bout between home side Maitland Roller Girls’ Junkyard Jerks and the visiting Coffs Coast Derby Dolls.
Although the Jerks were outgunned by the Derby Dolls during the curtain-raiser, MRD president Doris McGee was delighted with the result.
“It was the first time we’ve played before a home crowd," McGee said. “To be out there and hear hundreds of people cheering for you, and not against you, was amazing.”
The women’s bout was followed up by a pot-luck co-ed bout where players from up and down Australia’s east coast combined to form two teams – the Jacks and the Sallys.
The Sallys, an all-women team, came back from an early deficit to take the lead but the men’s team, the Jacks, pulled away again to win the bout.
