The day was organised by a number of local disability service providers and included activities such as wheelchair yoga, wheelchair basketball, soccer, cricket, bocce, music and art.

Endeavour Group Australia communications officer Kate Krajewski said the organisers were thrilled with the turnout.

“It was great to see so many different service providers and groups working together in the Cessnock community to organise this day.

“Events like the Come and Try Day are such a great way to celebrate the achievements of local individuals living with a disability, while also contributing to creating an inclusive community.

“We were extremely excited by the large turnout of attendees on the day and thankful everyone’s support in making this event a success.”

PCYC Cessnock senior activities officer Paul Ashton said the centre was honoured to host the event.

“We want our club to be a creative, adaptable and inclusive space where a wide demographic within the community can participate in a wide variety of activity options,” he said.

The celebrations continue at Cessnock Regional Art Gallery on Saturday when the ‘Cessnock Includes You’ exhibition was officially opened.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Mai-Wel’s creative arts program and the gallery and will run until January 8.
