Pokolbin-based business, the Hunter Valley Coffee Roaster, received a gold medal at the Compak Golden Bean Coffee Roaster Awards.
Held in Port Macquarie last month, the Golden Bean awards endeavour to find Australia’s best coffee roasting business.
The Hunter Valley Coffee Roaster won a gold medal in the Australian Grown category for its ‘Silver Lining’ single origin.
The award-winning coffee was sourced from Mountain Top Coffee in Nimbin, and was roasted onsite at the boutique cellar door roastery (located at Worthington’s Vineyard on Palmers Lane, Pokolbin).
Hunter Valley Coffee Roaster founder Terissa Kerr-Robinson it was a thrill to receive the medal, especially as a first-time entrant in the competition.
“We have a lot of pride in our coffee and it is great to see that it is so well-placed with this recognition from the coffee industry,” she said.
“I didn’t think I’d come away with the gold. It was a wonderful, humbling experience.”
Ms Kerr-Robinson’s fascination with coffee beans started when she was a child.
“My parents were coffee drinkers and I was always intrigued with how it was made,” she said.
Her fascination with coffee grew in her 20 years working for Qantas, always seeking out a good drop in her travels. She rates Australia and New Zealand’s coffee among the best she has tasted.
