Denman Hotel were too good for Peden’s Hotel by three wickets in the third grade game played at Turner Park.
Peden’s were sent in to bat and managed just 79 from the 31 overs that they occupied the crease in the trying conditions.
Daniel Russell played pretty much a lone hand with a well-made 38, with sundries the only other score in double figures.
Clayton Babic was outstanding for the Dragons with the two-piece at first change, claiming 6-10 off 10 overs in a fine spell of bowling.
Beau Lantry was next best with an also very economic 2-10 off 8.
Denman Hotel achieved the target in the 17th over in reply, not without a struggle though, losing seven wickets along the way.
Steve Croucher (25) and David Mahony (21) steadied a rocky ship in the middle order, with Brett Bartley (14) at the top of the order doing enough to get the visitors home.
Veterans Jason Jones (5-46 off 9) and Dane Grills (2-36 off 8) near pulled the game out of the fire for the Piranhas, but the low target was always going to be difficult to defend.
Paxton jumped into the outright lead on the back of their nail-biting one-wicket victory over Bellbird at Millfield.
Sent in to bat, Bellbird posted 133, with Dylan Stoker leading the way with 45.
Skipper Shaun Anderson (34) and Jack Lennard (12) were the other batsmen to make an impression, meanwhile Brendan Hayes (3-45 off 10), Garry-Jai Russell (2-19 off 5.3) and Mark Scott (2-30 off 10) were the wicket-takers for Paxton.
Paxton reached the target in the 31st over with just the one wicket in hand.
Skipper Hayes capped a fine all-round game with 46, with Scott (21), Alan Orr (15) and Micky Read (12) getting the home side over the line.
Lennard (4-27 off 9) and Kyle Piper (4-38 off 9) were Bellbird’s best with the ball.
