Emily received a Local Sporting Champions grant worth $500 to assist with her costs for the journey.
Paterson MP Meryl Swanson met with the budding sporting champion last week to acknowledge Emily’s achievement and congratulate her on receiving this grant.
“Our community has a proud history of producing sporting champions, and it is important that we continue this tradition by supporting our champions of the future,” Ms Swanson said.
“Unfortunately succeeding in sport doesn’t just take talent and determination, it often requires great financial sacrifices.
“I’m very pleased to be able to help local families with financial assistance through these grants.”
The next round of applications for Local Sporting Champions grants opens March 1, 2017 and closes June 30.
