The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Merriwa Hospital to collect the young man.
It is believed the 17-year-old presented himself to the medical staff, by his own means, suffering internal injuries.
“Apparently, he was at a bullriding training course,” a Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman said.
“The rider came off the bull, being trampled in the process.
“He was then driven to Merriwa Hospital by car.
“But, he was flown to John Hunter [for further treatment] in a stable conditions.”
The helicopter arrived in Merriwa about 3pm to transport the teen to Newcastle.
