Greta Branxton’s Dagg fell tantalising short of his second century of the season finishing on 96 not out as his team posted 8/200 in their 40 overs against Bellbird at Carmichael Oval.
However, Bellbird’s Gyler, who made 90 not out, finished on the winning team as he and explosive all-rounder Luke Weekes (61 not out) combined in a 128-run unbeaten partnership to lead their team to victory after they had slumped to 6/76.
The Bellbird and Greta/Branxton fixture was the only first grade game to proceed after rain caused havoc to most grounds on Friday afternoon.
Greta/Branxton won the toss and batted on a rather greenish wicket.
In form former skipper, Dagg was again the mainstay of the Greta/Branxton innings but ran out of deliveries in chasing his second 100 of the season.
Dagg was supported by Barry Richards (26) and Andrew Bercini (24) in posting a competitive total of 200. Matt Tomlinson (3-29) and Dave Gyler (3-37) were the best for the Bellbird attack.
In reply, things got off to a shaky start with Greta/Branxton’s Ben Braiding (2-43) and Bryce Element (3-56) ripping through Bellbird’s top order to have them 6/76 in the last over before drinks.
Enter “man of the match”, Gyler and all-rounder Weekes jointed to combine in an amazing 128-run unbeaten partnership to guide Bellbird from the brink of defeat to a remarkable win in just the 33rd over.
