The 14-year-old beat some stiff competition to take home the grand final prize – a two-track recording by Roy Cooper from Sound Lab Studios plus 500 CDs produced courtesy of East Cessnock Bowling Club.
This was on the back of his recent success at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, where he made the grand final of five talent quests and was runner-up in two.
Finnian, who is in Year 10 at St Joseph’s Lochinvar, said he was “stoked” to win the Reg Lindsay Memorial Talent Quest.
“There were some great competitors, it was an awesome experience,” he said.
Finnian qualified for the grand final after winning the gospel, 11-16 years and original song sections.
Other section winners were Tracey Rowland (adult female), Peter Armstrong (adult male and comedy), Brooke Thompson (10-years and under), Kim Campbell and Dianne Murray and Sami Haywood and Todd Haywood (equal first in the duo section).
The talent quest was held on the weekend of March 4 and 5 at East Cessnock Bowling Club, where a bronze statue stands of the late, great country music performer (who called Kearsley home for the last 19 years of his life).
Talent quest organiser, Reg’s widow Ros Lindsay said a fantastic weekend was had by all and plans are underway for a bigger line up next year.
