The Newcastle and Hunter Rugbly League’s 2017 draw has the Hawks and Crushers pitted against teams from across the Hunter in the 12-team C-grade competition.
The comp also includes Dungog, Clarence Town, Gloucester, Hinton, Stockton, Waratah Mayfield, Karuah, Paterson River, Wallsend Maryland and Stroud.
Hawks coach Dean Peterkin, whose team had a 42-14 win against Maitland United, said he was happy with the grading and delighted that there will be a local derby against Kearsley.
“Unfortunately, we have to wait to round seven in May for the local derby, but I think it will be a great competition,” he said.
The Hawks kick off their season with an away game against Clarence Town on Sunday, April 2. Their first home game at Howe Park is in round two against Waratah Mayfield on Saturday, April 8.
The Crushers, who have been unbeaten in their trial games, are at home to Dungog in their opening game on Saturday, April 1. The travel to Gloucester the following Saturday.
