And that’s saying something – considering last year’s was named Best Local Youth Week Program at the 2016 NSW Local Government Awards.
This year a jam-packed program of more than 25 free events includes the Take the Stage talent quest, silent discos, outdoor cinemas and the ever-popular Youthfest.
There is also huge range of workshops on offer – learn how to code, decorate cupcakes, twirl fire, make flower crowns, do nail art, make jewellery and even how to write your resume.
Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee event manager Eloise Burgess said the committee have had a long and great history with Youth Week which is continuing on this year.
“Each year we hold a range of events in our area catering for a lot of young people,” Ms Burgess said.
“We are especially passionate about live music and we love to support the young, up and coming bands and artists in our area.”
The fun kicks off with popular talent quest Take The Stage at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Friday, March 31.
Performances can be anything from drama acts, circus acts, comedy acts and dance, and musical performances may include an instrumental or song performed by a solo, duet or band.
Registrations are due by March 24 (at https://youthoffthestreets.com.au/event/talentcomp) and a rehearsal will be held at the CPAC at 4pm on March 28.
The fun and excitement of Youth Week will culminates at YouthFest at Margaret Johns Park, Kurri Kurri on Saturday, April 8 from 11am to 4pm.
Youthfest is a free event that includes live music, a bike, skate and scooter competition, art workshop, Zoro balls and fun for the entire family.
The Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee obtained an Indent grant that will fund the music component of YouthFest.
Brisbane band Columbus will be the headline act supported by a handful of awesome young bands from the Hunter Region, Central Coast and Sydney including Kid Zr0, Arborview, Jones the Cat, Just Ace and Interlude.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent encouraged young people to join in, have fun and be heard as part of Youth Week 2017.
“Each year Youth Week is a chance for the next generation to come together to learn, celebrate and best of all enjoy a fantastic program of events,” Cr Pynsent said.
“Youth Week is a truly collaborative effort and the events on offer are made possible by the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of our Youth Week Organising Committee.
“Every young person in our community has a desire to be included.
“The 2017 program is our most accessible yet with every single event or workshop catering to young people with a disability.”
