Police were able to catch the young man only because of the actions of a citizen who called police.

After arresting the man, police allegedly found a can of spray paint in his possession. The man will now attend Cessnock Court.

Last Tuesday afternoon, police stopped a visiting motorist on Wollombi Road when a check with Roads and Maritime revealed his vehicle’s registration expired in July 2016.

Further inquiries found that the 46-year-old man had last held a driver’s licence in 2003, a matter of 14 years.

He will now be explaining his actionS to Cessnock Court.

About 9.30pm police were travelling on Cessnock Road near Neath when they saw a lit cigarette thrown from a vehicle in front.

The car was stopped and the 29-year-old passenger was spoken to. He readily admitted the offence and received an infringement notice for $450.

Between 6pm and 11pm on Wednesday offenders broke into a locked truck in the car park of the Cessnock Leagues Club in Darwin Street.

During the offence an Apple laptop computer was stolen.

Unfortunately police have not been able to identify the offender and are hoping members of the community may have some information.

At 2am last Tuesday, police spoke to a 16-year-old who was acting suspiciously in Vincent Street, Cessnock.

A search of the boy allegedly located a sheath knife and a small quantity of cannabis.

The boy was taken home to his parents and will have actions taken under the Young Offender Act.
