The NSW Government has allocated $2.8 million to install new drainage and provide a safer road surface from 200 metres south of Kerlew Street to Fletcher Street.
Changed traffic conditions that may affect travel times, including lane closures and temporary detours, will be in place while work is carried out.
The detours will operate 24 hours a day.
The first closure will take place from April 5 to April 13 and will involve northbound motorists detouring via Kerlew, Occident and Austral streets.
The second road closure will take place from April 18 to 21 will involve northbound motorists detouring via Kerlew Street, Occident Street and O’Connors Road.
Southbound motorists on Wine Country Drive will not be affected.
Work is expected to be complete by the end of June, weather permitting.
Cessnock City Council will complete the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services.
Motorists are advised to follow the direction of traffic control, signs and keep to the reduced speed limits.
