Katie Martin is a Joey Scout at Kurri Kurri Scout Group, and the collection is part of her act of community service for her Promise Challenge badge.
Katie is seeking donations of non-perishable food such as canned tuna, ham, vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, baked beans, pasta and soups, which she will pass on to Foodbank – the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia.
Foodbank distributes food to more than 560 charities, welfare organisations and community groups who support individuals and families in need.
Katie decided that she wanted to help Foodbank provide meals to people who couldn’t afford it, because food “makes everyone feel much happier”.
She will hold collection days at Aldi Kurri Kurri on April 16 and Coles Kurri Kurri on April 23.
Cans can also be dropped at Kurri Kurri Scout Hall on Monday and Wednesday afternoons after 5pm.
