The program pairs young people with volunteer coaches to develop their leadership skills and complete a community service project that will benefit their local area.
Participants who complete the 22-week program will obtain a Certificate I in Volunteering.
Max Potential has been operating in NSW for more than a decade, and came to Cessnock for the first time in late 2016.
The inaugural program supported 10 young adults from Mai-Wel. Their community projects included water safety, anti-bullying and support for homeless people and animals.
On the back of the success of that program (which concluded in February), Cessnock Leagues Club has come on board to support Max Potential for a second round.
“It is amazing to see the transformations of the young people who participate in this program make for themselves,” program manager Julie Stevens said.
“It’s fantastic that Cessnock Leagues Club have had the vision and foresight to bring this program to Cessnock in support of our local young people.
“This program is unique in that it brings together young people with their community and the local club.”
Ms Stevens said Max Potential would love to hear from community members who would like to volunteer as a coach for the program.
Full training is provided as well as ongoing support. Coaches also have opportunity to develop their own skills over the 22 weeks by working with a professional coach over four one-hour sessions.
Training will start May 19. Anyone who is interested in becoming a community coach is encouraged to contact Julie Stevens on 0414 402 780 or julie@futureachievementaustralia.com.au by May 3.
