But at the Grapest 5K Run, you can do both.
Australia’s newest fun run sensation will be held at three Lovedale vineyards – Domaine de Binet, Adina Vineyard and Tatler Wines – on Saturday, May 6.
Participants can choose to run or walk five or 10 kilometres through the vineyards, followed by a one-kilometre wine-tasting walk and an after-party.
The Lovedale Road venues are excited to be involved in the Grapest 5K Run’s Hunter Valley debut.
“The wine-tasting stations as you near the finish line are going to be the highlight for many we think, where participants will be able to enjoy our unique varietals,” Domaine de Binet winemaker and director Daniel Binet said.
“It will be a great opportunity for us to de-mystify the world of wine in a fun and engaging way, and the entertainment and activities afterwards are going to make this a must do event for visitors and the local community.”
Adina Vineyard owner Peter O’Meara said the winery run has the potential to become a signature event for Lovedale.
“It’s a unique event for Australia,” he said.
“It’s not just a wine event – it’s also important for accommodation providers and will enhance tourism in the area.”
The Lovedale event will be the third in the series of seven Grapest 5K Runs to be delivered across the nation this year.
Centaur Outdoor events director Peter Manning said the first two events at Bendigo and Shoalhaven were a great success.
“Themed fun runs are offering runners a fresh, exciting and fun alternative to the local 5K fun run scene, and something perceived as more ‘do-able’ than the more physically challenging obstacle mud race or triathlon-style adventure race,” Mr Manning said.
“These runs are also a safe way for participants, especially women, to exercise en masse.”
Mr Manning said visitors from as far as Sydney, Tamworth and Dubbo have signed up for the Hunter Valley run.
He said about 80 percent of the people who have registered are women, with an average age of 40.
The run will start and finish at Domaine de Binet, and an after-party will follow, with live entertainment by up-and-coming country rock band Hurricane Fall.
For those not keen on the running component, winery walk and after-party tickets are also available.
