Take it back to basics with the most traditional theme of all – flowers.
Spoil mum with the real thing or just be inspired by their beauty.
Here’s four ideas to get your started:
1. The best bunch
Chrysanthemums are naturally in season in Australia in autumn making them affordable and plentiful in time for Mother’s Day.
These gorgeous blooms are one of Australia’s all time favourite choices for mum and come in a range of colours including white, pink and purple to yellow and bronze. They also come in all shapes and sizes.
To make this traditional gift extra special why not buy mum a unique vase from an antique store or have your local potter custom make one.
2. Potted love
Pink is the most traditional colour for Mother’s Day so why not buy mum a potted pink flowering plant that will last and last.
Choices include roses, clematis, orchids or even a frangipani. For the modern mum you can’t go past a cute cactus with a big pink flower.
Add a unique touch by hand painting a pot – simple spots can pretty it up or if you are feeling particularly crafty find some pretty old tiles and create a mosaic design.
3. Painted peonies
Flowers have been inspiring artists for as long as anyone can remember. There are many wonderful artists creating oil, acrylic or even watercolour artworks in most areas.
Why not visit your local art gallery and find a local artist to support.
Once you find the perfect picture for mum have it custom framed in a style mum will love.
4. Tea time treat
Your grandmother probably had a tea set for special occasions but these days our kitchen cupboards are more likely to be filled with mugs.
Turn back the clock and invest in a vintage bone china tea set for mum this Mother’s Day. And of course, arguably the best and most popular decoration of a traditional tea set is a floral design.
There are still some lovely sets popping up in antique shops, or even op shops, so grab one for mum and wrap it beautifully in pink tissue paper and a lovely box.
