Elizabeth Streitberger-Sams, of Bellbird, and Cessnock’s Caitlyn Provost perform with the Central Coast-based Academy DrillDance Club under-8s team.
Formerly known as Marching Girls, DrillDance now attracts competitors of all ages – both male and female – and is growing in popularity around Australia.
While still very much focused on the precision drill and formations basis of its early days, the routines have been expanded to include props and thematic dance.
Elizabeth and Caitlyn got involved in the sport in September last year through their aunty Karen Wheelwright, who is the team’s coach.
Eight months later, the girls were excited to perform at the NSW championships on April 9, and the nationals two weeks later.
The team is taking a short break and will resume training in June to begin preparing for next year’s state and national competitions.
