The honest boy handed the $500 item into police, who were able to locate a grateful owner. Well done to that lad.
Caravan set on fire
A caravan was set on fire at the rear of Trebbiano Drive, Cessnock on Thursday afternoon.
Several young persons were allegedly seen fleeing the scene prior to the fire.
Unfortunately the caravan was totally destroyed in the fire, which also caused damaged to an adjacent caravan.
Police are investigating the matter and are requesting any person with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police officer allegedly bitten
Cessnock police attended Rotary Park in Kurri Kurri on Thursday morning in relation to a reportedly intoxicated man.
Police allegedly found the 51-year-old man highly affected by alcohol and acting in a dangerous manner.
As a result the man was arrested and conveyed to Maitland Police Station, where he allegedly bit the Cessnock police officer on the hand.
The officer received medical treatment and the man will attend court charged with assault.
Damage to Cessnock High School
Last weekend unknown offenders damaged a section of mesh on the boundary fence of Cessnock High School on Aberdare Road.
The offenders caused substantial damage and police hope the community will be able to help identify the perpetrators.
Driver caught travelling 168km/h on expressway
Local Highway Patrol police clocked a 60-year-old man travelling at 168 km/h – 58 km/h over the limit – in a Toyota sedan on the Hunter Expressway near Kurri Kurri on Thursday evening.
The man had his licence suspended immediately for six months and was issued an infringement notice for $2350.
