The Minister – who also sits on the State's Expenditure Review Committee – was visiting as part of a NSW cabinet visit to the Upper Hunter the following day.
During the meeting the discussion entered around strategies for export enhancement and inbound tourism. Included in the discussion was the recognition of Hunter Wine Country as the state's pre-eminent wine region and strategies to ensure a greater representation of Hunter wines at government-sponsored events and in the restaurant wine lists.
Hunter Wine Country is gearing up for the 2028 bi-centenary of the first continuously commercial wine grapes production in Australia. It is intended that domestic and world interest in the 'start of the Australian wine industry' would be high and that the celebrations be of the highest calibre.
This meeting in the Hunter follows a ministerial visit hosted by the HVWTA by Adam Marshall, Minister for Tourism and Major Events a month ago at Hunter Valley Gardens.
The HVWTA is also preparing for a Vice-Regal visit this week by the NSW Governor, His Excellency General David Hurley and Mrs Linda Hurley, where the association will host a roundtable discussion at Drayton's Family Wines. The Vice-Regal visit will be part of a broader visit to the Cessnock local government area.
