The acclaimed drama school will bring Singin’ in the Rain Jr to the stage in the July school holidays.
A talented troupe of 26 young stars will don their raincoats to bring this musical classic to life.
Bellbird Heights girl Eve Baird, 11, is the show’s youngest cast member.
Auditions were open to 14-to-18-year-olds, but as Eve is such a standout performer in her classes, she was also asked to try out.
Eve will play a stagehand, an assistant and a pedestrian in the show.
She is excited about the opportunity to grow as a musical theatre performer.
“I feel very lucky,” she said.
Eve’s mum Maxine said the other students and staff are very encouraging.
“They’re all buzzing – it’s a great atmosphere,” she said.
Hunter Drama was established in 2007 and has gained a great reputation for producing fresh dramatic arts opportunities for young people and professional large-scale musical events.
The school has twice won the ‘most outstanding production’ award at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, USA.
She also performed in Hunter Drama’s Seussical Kids in April this year, and will be part of the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Diocese’s Aspire and The Hoarders Next Door in August.
A Year 6 student at St Patrick’s Primary School, Eve has been selected to attend the Hunter School of Performing Arts next year.
Singin’ in the Rain Jr will hit the stage at St Philip’s Christian College Theatre, Waratah from July 5 to 8. Tickets at http://tickets.spcc.nsw.edu.au/.
