Mr Hurley and wife Linda Hurley were in town from Thursday to Saturday as part of his monthly visit to regional areas across the state.
He visited Tocal College and the NSW SES Hunter Region while he was in Maitland on Thursday, before making his way to Cessnock on Friday.
Mr and Mrs Hurley visited Mount View High School where they met the student leadership group, watched a demonstration by the team going to the F1 in Schools world championship, discussed the school’s involvement in White Ribbon, and visit the agriculture farm.
Mr Hurley said it was important for him to visit schools to hear about the students aspirations and encourage them in their achievements.
Mount View High School principal Desley Pfeffer said she was thrilled to have the Governor visit.
She said it was great for the students to be able to show off their achievements.
Mr and Mrs Hurley went on to visit Cessnock Community Health Care and attended a roundtable discussion with Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association representatives at Drayton’s Wines.
They also stopped in at Cessnock PCYC, DreamSky Aviation, the Cessnock Men’s Shed and the Handmade in the Hunter markets on Saturday.
