On Saturday morning a 22-year-old female visiting Cessnock jail was allegedly found with a small amount of the illegal drug methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, in her possession. The drug was allegedly found after she was searched when trying to enter the prison. The woman will be attending court in relation to drug possession and has been banned for 12 months from visiting the jail.

Burnt out vehicles
There have been a number of instances lately where vehicles left on the side of the road after breaking down have been burnt out. The latest crime took place on Thursday night when a young man’s car broke down on the Hunter Expressway near Heddon Greta. The man left his vehicle at 9pm intact and when he returned at 11pm the vehicle was totally destroyed by fire. Police are investigating the matter, but would like the public to be aware when leaving vehicles unattended out of town.
Knives and drugs
About 9pm on Thursday police detected a 38-year-old male acting suspiciously in a vehicle at Weston. As a result the man was searched and a quantity of cannabis as well as a number of knives, including a throwing knife, were allegedly found. The knives and drugs were confiscated and the man will be attending court.
Credit card stolen
On Friday evening a Cessnock woman left her handbag in her unlocked car while she was about 10 metres away speaking to a friend. The bag was left unattended for about an hour-and-a-half. In that time an offender has taken the handbag and used a credit card to make $500 worth of purchases via payWave. Police are investigating the matter, but are also calling on the public to keep credit cards safe.
