Cessnock man Timothy Lowe will look very different by this weekend.
Mr Lowe is parting ways with his beard (that he has had for about 20 years) and his long hair to help raise money for a young relative who is battling cancer.
His great-niece Leilani ‘Lani’ Matenga, 15, has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a type of tumour that forms in bone or soft tissue.
Lani and her mother (Mr Lowe’s niece) Saffron Morris have moved from their home in Renmark, South Australia to Adelaide while she undergoes treatment.
Mr Lowe wanted to help Lani and Saffron with their medical and living costs, so he started a fundraising campaign called ‘Hope For Lani’ and set himself a goal of raising $500 to shave his beard.
He has eclipsed that goal, so come Friday, the beard will be gone.
Mr Lowe will also have his head shaved and donate the hair to Variety to make wigs for children with cancer or the hair-loss condition alopecia.
The shave will take place at XY Hair Co on Friday at 10am.
