NAIDOC Week, which stands for National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee, is celebration of history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

The family fun day featured music, culture, stalls, food and jumping castles in Cessnock TAFE grounds, plus a street parade.

Black Creek Aboriginal Corporation chair Susan Corbet said the event was well-attended by indigenous and non-indigenous people.

“It’s a great day for reconciliation and people wanting to learn more,” she said.

Ms Corbet said the event continues to grow every year.

“This year we held traditional games, and it was very well-received by kids and adults,” she said.

While NAIDOC Week was officially held from July 2 to 9, events will continue in Cessnock throughout July and August.
