Marlie Chapman reminds the Hawks of the importance of the foundation’s work when she runs around with her friends at home games at Howe Park.
Marlie, the four-year-old daughter of Abermain forward Bryce Chapman is a thriving example of Kids With Cancer’s vital work with children and their families in the battle against cancer.
“The support they gave us and the support from the community got us through an incredible tough time for us all,” Bryce said.
“Marlie was so brave and while she still has tests every three months to see if she is cancer free, she is thriving and a ball of energy.
“It’s funny now but one of the first things she wanted to do was go on our weekly shopping trip to Coles together.
“Her immune system had got so low that we couldn’t risk her health on a simple shopping trip because of the risk of infection.”
The Hawks and Kearsley Crushers have a double header on Saturday at Howe Park, with fundraising on the day at a the Abermain Hotel after to go to Kids With Cancer.
The Crushers hosted the first of the fundraising double headers last month with proceeds going to the Westpac Rescue Hospital Service.
Kearsley play Maitland United in the first of the two games, with kick-off at 1pm.
The Hawks follow when they take on Hinton from 3pm.
Both Coalfields team are coming off losses.
