Cessnock trainer Jeremy Sylvester’s winter trip north paid dividends when 8-year-old gelding Aomen scored a convincing win on the Sunshine Coast track on Saturday.

Aomen took out the benchmark 90 event over 1400 metres in dashing style, scoring by two lengths with Teegan Harrison doing the riding honours.
Harrison is a regular rider when Sylvester takes his stable north and didn’t let him down with a 10 out of 10 ride.
The first prize of $40,200 for the win took Aomen’s total prizemoney to $805,988.
Part of this was earned when the gelding did his early racing in Hong Kong.
Aomen was coming off a third in the John Carlton Cup run on the first day of the Grafton Racing Carnival 10 days earlier, a run that pleased Sylvester who gave it a good chance of adding to its win record.
Aomen has now raced on 43 occasions for seven wins and six minor placings.
Another stable favourite Three Sheets also earned a cheque with a second placing in the John Carlton Cup. The five-year-old gelding also was a solid sixth in the feature sprint of the carnival, the Ramornie Handicap, beaten by only 3.1 lengths.
Sylvester didn't have to wait long, 48 hours in fact, to enjoy more success when his stable landed another winner.
Six-year-old gelding Lasszou who took out the last race at Monday's Cessnock meeting.
Promising claiming apprentice Cejay Graham took a rails run and scored a narrow win to register Lasszou's fifth win from 49 starts and boost his prizemoney to almost $100,000.
