Somalian civil war survivor Jamila Gordon will be the guest speaker at Cessnock’s annual School Leaders Breakfast on August 1.

The event is a part of Local Government Week celebrations and will be held at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.
Ms Gordon faced unfathomable challenges to escape the Somalian civil war and arrived in Australia at the age of 18.
Since then she has led a successful career working for major companies like Qantas, IMB Europe and more recently, as director and global chief information officer at GetSwift Ltd.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said students could gain a lot from hearing Ms Gordon’s story.
“I am certain our school leaders will walk away feeling inspired,” he said.
Cessnock City Council is hosting the event and has invited to schools across the region to attend, giving students the opportunity to listen and ask questions.
