Hundreds watch on as Wallabies train at Cessnock | Photos

More than 300 fans got to rub shoulders with Australia’s rugby union elite when the Wallabies opened up their Cessnock training camp to locals on Tuesday night.

The well-attended event saw footy lovers meeting and greeting with the entire Wallabies squad and coaching staff.

The Wallabies will train in Cessnock throughout the week as preparations ramp up for their Bledisloe Cup kick off against the All Blacks on August 19 in Sydney.

The Wallabies have been in the Hunter since late July, spending a week in Newcastle before leaving the city for the quieter atmosphere of the lower Hunter.

“Country and regional rugby all around Australia is our heartland,” Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said ahead of the visit.

“The Wallaby support is very strong in these areas so Cessnock and Newcastle will be a great chance for us to feel that support before we take on New Zealand.
