So when she found out a group of her mum’s workmates at Suncorp were going to have their heads shaved to raise money for brain cancer, she wanted to shave hers too.
When her mum, Melanie, asked Jadzia why she wanted to do this, she said: “So I can raise money to help the doctors stop cancer”.
“She managed to convince me that her hair would grow back, and that she could help people that needed it,” Melanie said.
“She also managed to convince me that i should do it too.”
Jadzia and Melanie are among 17 people who will take part in the “Shave For My Hero: 25 years, 25 women, 25 thousand” fundraiser at Longworth House, Newcastle on Friday night.
Melanie’s workmate Katie Carney organised the event in memory of her mother, who died from brain cancer 25 years ago.
Katie shaved her head four years ago and raised more than $30,000.
Jadzia first met Katie just before the last shave, and was fascinated with the idea that she was going to shave off all of her long, blonde hair.
Jadzia is excited to have the opportunity to join in this time around, and has set a goal of $1000.
The Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is Australia’s peak organisation for brain cancer research, advocacy and awareness.
