At St Philip’s Christian College, Cessnock the early learning program is called Prep, which is designed for students in the year before they start formal schooling.
It is now widely recognised that the early years of life are the most important for learning, for it is during these years that crucial foundations are laid.
Children are born with a curiosity which leads them to explore their world, seek knowledge and build relationships.
St Philip’s Prep school provides a positive and nurturing environment that prepares children for their educational journey, capturing the joy of discovery.
Staff at St Philip’s believe that learning at this age best takes place through creative play, group work, investigation and individual learning situations.
Children are born with a curiosity which leads them to explore their world, seek knowledge and build relationships.
Their program focuses on developing the whole child, with particular focus on building resilience and positive social and emotional skills.
Your child will be both stimulated and challenged as they focus on pre-reading skills and are immersed in the numeracy and literacy programs used in Kindergarten.
In addition to working closely with outstanding early childhood teachers, Prep students are also taught by specialist teachers in library, PE and music and attend school assemblies.
Being part of Junior School eases the transition into Kindergarten as Prep students become familiar and confident with the school environment, understanding more about how school looks and feels.
The beautiful facilities at St Philip’s combined with outstanding staff who are deeply committed to the care, education and wellbeing of students makes Prep the perfect place for young children to prepare for “big school”.
Parents have the option of a two- or three-day Prep Program.
Children can be enrolled for the Monday/Tuesday Prep Class OR the Wednesday/Thursday Prep Class.
Children who are enrolled for the three-day Prep Program also attend on Fridays where their learning from the week is extended.
