Mainly Music’s philosophy is all about connection – between children and the music, children and adults, adults and each other, and the church and community.
Founded in New Zealand in 1989, it integrates children’s songs, nursery rhymes and Christian songs with dance moves and actions.
St John’s rector Reverend Michelle Hazel-Jawhary introduced Mainly Music to the Cessnock church early this year, after success with the program at two of her previous parishes, Belmont North-Redhead and Gloucester.
Rev Hazel-Jawhary said the program can help children with their gross motor and fine motor skills, while providing a chance for parents to meet new people over a nice morning tea.
“It’s a way for the church to reach out to the community and build relationships,” she said.
Mainly Music is held at St John’s Anglican Church (corner of Westcott and Dudley Street, Cessnock) at 9.30am on the second and fourth Thursday of the month during school term.
The next session will be held August 24.
Cost is $5 per family and morning tea is included.
