Bates worked as a performer for more than 35 years, in and out of London’s Royal Opera House, including 17 years as principal percussion with the orchestra.
The lecture will be held at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Monday, August 28 at 7pm.
Tickets are $25 including a light supper and Hunter Valley wines after the lecture (students free, excluding supper).
