Five of the Guides and three of their leaders will be attending the Jamboree at Olympic Park, Sydney in October next year and they will hold several fundraising activities in the lead-up to the event.
Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from all over the world will take part in the week-long gathering, where they will camp together in bell tents while learning skills, enjoying the many activities available to them in and around Sydney, and making friendships that could last a lifetime.
Outings during the camp will include hiking in the Blue Mountains, Cables water park, wildlife parks, Wet and Wild, Sydney Aquarium, hiking on Sydney’s beaches, archery, circus skills, cycling, and much more.
The Kurri Kurri Girl Guides’ first fundraiser for the Jamboree will be a garage sale at the Kurri Kurri Guide Hall on Saturday, August 26.
“The girls have been busy deciding what belongings they are happy to part with to sell at the sale and have also collected items from friends and family members,” Kurri Kurri Girl Guides district manager Dianne Bailey said.
“Their parents will add to the day with a sausage sizzle, cake stall and cordials for sale.”
The Guides have discovered some interesting and unique items that will be for sale (like the teapot, pictured).
They also plan to fundraise at the Kurri Kurri Markets (on the second Saturday of the month in Rotary Park) and are making a wide selection of crafts and gifts.
Anyone who would like to support the Guides can contact Dianne Bailey on 4936 1903 or email eac02@bigpond.com. Any financial donations are tax deductible.
